1. Dilwar Ali - Chief Engineer, 6th Batch

Dear Shahid,

I am an Engineer from 6th Batch, settled in Australia and involved in business. You can find my brief credentials in Capt Abdullah`s web page. I have received an e-mail from Abdullah regarding your  web site. It is so sad that at this very young age such a mishap has happened to you. I must appreciate your courage and determination.

In this world some are lucky some are not so lucky but the life will go on whatever we do. Therefore, it is better that instead of repenting, dropping tears, allowing to waste away, one must accept the reality and make best out of the worst. Shahid, I am extremely moved with your situation, I feel for you,  feel terribly sympathetic. Is there anyway that I can help you , to ease up your burden, to make your life more comfortable and entertaining. I  come to Dhaka  very often to see my mother as she is paralysed half body and her world is confined to small room.

I shall spare no time to visit you. So, please send your phone/address to me.

With best regards to your family.

Dilwar Ali

2. Refayet Amin - Chief Engineer, 20th Batch

1. salaam,

This is Refayet of 20th batch. We met many times. The last time was at South Shields. Just before you left for Bangladesh. I tried to get your news and whereabouts as much as possible always. However I got very little all these years. Now Abdullah Bhai gave me your address; and I really liked what I saw in your page. Its lovely and amazing. I'll come back to this page often.

Presently I am in USA working in an Engineering firm. I would love  to get mail from you, if it is not a problem on your part. and even if you can't write, I'll always understand and will visit your page to see your updates.

That's all for today.
By being so courageous, you've provided and still providing many of us a guiding light.
Khoda Hafez

2. Hey Man,
Did I see some beautiful changes in your homepage? They're marvelous. and also filled me in with some missing threads.
it is impressing to know about your computer knowledge, effort and most of the classes.
You have the ability to do so. And in the context of Bangladesh what you have done is beyond most of our's limit. again it is now reflecting in your web pages. I did visit it few times within last few days; and can exactly tell you on what day you're changing what.
How about teaching web-authoring to someone. I should not use the word teaching. how about showing? You know, many Americans does not know what is Internet; web-page creation is far beyond that. and you're well advanced in many ways. so try to share some of your treasure.
I'll talk to you later.
Life is a continuous journey of change. You're making it pleasant; while many others are stumbling or giving up altogether. That's life.
We all have dents in our life.
Next time I'll tell you about my accident.

Bye for today.

3. salaam every one,
I hope by this time most of us has visited Shahidul sir's homepage. many of us have written to him too. It is very nice have such kind and loving communication among all of us, and always.
I would like to give all the credit to Capt. Abdullah. for his effort to create his own homepage/mariner's list but above all for directing us to Shahidul sir's homepage. he has done everything single-handedly.
BRAVO.
I hope all of you'll agree with me. So please visit both the home pages; and try to keep in touch with each other and help/talk to each other frequently.
Khoda Hafez

4. salaam,
It is really nice to see the changes everyday. Do you know that, I visit your page almost each and every day. I know how much effort and time is need to create and maintain a homepage. You're doing a great job. Meanwhile, we the mariners are having a common ground at your page (today you named it SMOKEROOM; I liked that). As a matter of fact, I have visited that section (comments) the most. Within the whole page, a strong sense of brotherhood prevails.
May I make a request? Can you please add NEXT and PREVIOUS page buttons on those pages, in addition to MAIN button? Sometimes it is like dead end. I hope it won't be that difficult for you. You can copy and paste the .gif images and change the targets. Me and my wife, Nazma could not hold back our tears last week, when we read your accident story for the first time. But again, after seeing all other sections; we realized more than ever that how strong a person you are. you hove shown the world, the meaning of determination.
Keep it up; and help all of us to stay together and to stay in touch with each other. and most probably, one of the best thing I have ever seen in your page is complement to Abdullah sir, who deserves it fully.

3. L. T. Gomes - Captain, 3rd Batch                    27 Apr 1999

1. Dear Shahidul,

My name is L.T.Gomes from 3rd batch and now in Dhaka for leave up to 30th of this month (another 3 days left) then I expect to join ship in Chittagong (BSC).

As I was lying in bed with high temperature (flu) Abdullah's message came in, informing about your web page. I have not tried to visit your web page as yet as I have some difficulty with my set, however soon I will try to open it before I join ship.

You are doing a brilliant job and keep up your efforts. Remember Stephen Hawkins has made immense contributions to science from his wheelchair and I am sure you are going well ahead as you have already made your contributions to the Mariners Society.

Keep well as best as you can and God Bless you always.
Salaam and best wishes to your parents.

2. Dear Shahidul,

Great feeling to have gone through your page, your site is simple and very touching. I pray to Almighty to give you all the moral strength you need to stay happy in this world.  I will be going to Chittagong soon and I will take prints of all your letters and pass around in Chittagong- I will definitely do this for you.

Lots of regards to your family. Keep it up, you are doing the best you can which many of us even cannot do.

Yours 'Sir' L.T.Gomes.

1. Dear Shahidul,

Hope you are fine. I had learnt about you earlier but got your address only today from Abdullah's message. I must congratulate you for the courage you have shown to face the life as you have encountered. I am sure you will be an example to many others who by misfortune becomes "Accidentally Retired" at an early age. All our best wishes are always with you.

2. Dear Shahidul,

I was telling your story to one of my friends today. She is a Belgian, a doctorate in Economics and worked in the NETO in a very senior position for almost ten years, yet as a hobby she also writes poems. Normally she writes in French but this one she wrote in English, dedicated to you.

LIKE THE THUNDER
IT DID HIT YOU
LIKE THE THUNDER
IT DID HURT YOU
LIKE THE THUNDER
STRONGER YOU GREW.

FINALLY, YOU SAW A LIGHT
THE LIGHT THAT MADE YOU GROW
THE LIGHT THAT MADE YOU
ENJOY LIFE MORE AND MORE
DAY AFTER DAY

LIGHT AFTER THE THUNDER
COURAGE AFTER THE PAIN
DAY AFTER DAY

THROUGH THE PAIN
YOU DIDN’T RUN AWAY
THROUGH THE PAIN
YOU HAVE LEARNED
LEARN ABOUT PATIENCE
LEARN ABOUT COURAGE
AND THROUGH LIFE
YOU WILL LIVE
YOU WILL CHERISH
YOU WILL LOVE
DAY AFTER DAY.

My comments : The poem did touch my soul. It's a beauty. And a thing of beauty is a joy for ever.

7. Mo Anwar - S/O CEO, Chittagong Marine Academy

Shahid Bhai

I don't know whether you will know me. I got your e-mail address from Capt. Abdullah, who is doing an excellent job in maintaining a database for all the mariners.

My name is Tipu and I am son of Mr. AKM Nurul Amin, who was Chief Education Officer. Or, to help you, I am brother of Capt. Iqbal and Chief Engineer Mohiuddin Farooq. Right now I am in USA and working in Texas Instruments.
I live in Dallas, Texas.

Anyway, I heard your story from Abdullah Bhai and I am really sorry for that. I appreciate your courage for fighting at this situation. Hardly few people can do that. Good luck and wish you all the best wishes.

Thanks and best Regards,

Mo Anwar

8. Syed Nure Alam - Master Mariner, 14th Batch

Hellow brother Shahidul,

If you can remember me - it is me Syed Nure Alam who sailed as second officer on board M.V.Banglar Kakoli in 1986.

Few days back Abdullah talked about you with me. Later I forgot to send an e-mail. I writing from Australia. I came here as a migrant three years before since then living here. I am nearly retired from sea, though I went back to sea in 1997 for short time. I am trying to change my career towards computer networking. The rest is with Allah.

It is nice to come in contact with again. Please keep in touch with me.
We shall always pray for you . May Allah bless you.
Wishing you well

Syed Nure Alam

9. Kazi Ashraful Mamun - Chief Engineer, 19th Batch

1. Dear Sir,

1. I have gone through your web page and found it very interesting. Hope you finish it soon. I am presently settled in Sydney and have retired from sea as well. We have last met in SouthShields when you were doing your masters. In fact you've had your accident while I was still residing at 41, Reed St. South Shields. I did my class one marine engineering certificate and ever since done only one voyage and then left sea for good. Allah has different and strange ways to test his dear ones. Whoever is in whatsoever condition should gladly accept it as this is called "reda bil quada" which is an essential part of one's iman. And one who has got iman is sure to go to heaven. Hope everyone realise it before their time comes. I am glad that you are communicable. Hope to hear from you soon. meanwhile take care.

2.
For the first time I have had the time to go through your page in full. Though you haven't completed it yet, it is still a very interesting site to go through. I can assure that many like me were completely in darkness about you and your welfare before they had the chance to surf your page. Thanks to Abdullah Bhai for his unprecedented contribution to the mariner's welfare. And now I am positive that you can also create a page like him in future. It is really a marvelous job you are doing. I came to know form your page that you are from MCC. I also had a dream to study in that college but my fate wouldn't not allow that. My brother Kazi Asadul Mamun was a one time college captain of your college. He probably left the year you joined the college. He had a good reputation till something terrible happened there for which my parents were discouraged to put me there. Hence my dream couldn't come true. I do not regret for that as I know that Allah has his own way of action where as a creation we have only to submit. I have enjoyed reading about your family and friends. hope you keep up with you work and update it regularly. Meanwhile take care.

Best of luck.

3. 2002
Its good to learn about you and your welfare on a day to day basis. Like today I had time to surf your site and did so. Hope you are fine and doing well.
Thanks.

Today I came to know your site and visited it very briefly. It's quite interesting. I'll certainly make more time to visit your site.

About me... I also was a mariner, from 20th batch. Left the profession forever in 1987 after sailing for only a year and a half.

After doing MBA in 1989, I worked for a few years including teaching in the MBA program for an year and a half, I went to USA for doing MA in Int'l Economics and Finance. Then I joined Citibank, N.A. Now I am posted at Mumbai, India.

Will contact you again after spending sometime at your site. Thanks for creating it. I feel it'll be useful for me.

Regards,

Mamdudur Rashid

11. Hafiz Alam - Captain, 15th Batch

Dear Shahidul Alam,

I am sorry to hear about your accident. Couple of years ago I heard from someone about an accident similar to this but I wasn't sure who he was. Today I received an e-mail from Abdullah Bhai (14th batch) about you with your web-site address. When I saw your picture on my computer screen I was shocked that I knew you. I told my wife and son that probably he was with me at Banglar Maitri long time ago. But I can still remember you in many places at Chittagong. Anyway I do not know the real cause of your accident. But still it is a great pity for our society to loose an intelligent person like you in premature time. But still there is good treatment in this world. As you have been working with the computer I shall advise you to keep on sending e-mails to peoples about your condition those who are related with medical science. Allah is there to help you at all times. Please do not loose your patience.

I shall try to contact you in the future.

Let Allah bless you.

Capt. Hafiz Alam
(15th batch)

12. Sohel Q. Khan - 19th Batch

Dear Shahidul Sir,

I am from 19th batch Nautical. I talked with you couple of times, most probably with Kudrat E Khuda sir. I think you came to visit Banglar Gourab. Also, I know you because I met you couple of times in other ships.
Please write me here.

2. Dear Shahid Bhai,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Your accident really stuck my mind. Last couple of weeks I kept on thinking about it.
I read your whole web page and letters from other Mariners. It brings the memory of academy and the sea life. Thank you for posting Captain Abdullah's picture.
Kansas today is very cloudy and gloomy. It rained and hailed in the morning.
Please include a Weather section in your web page, describing weather of Bangladesh. I always remember the weather log that we had in the Marine Academy. Going to read the temperature, looking at the direction of wind, cloud and "the day broke with a cloudy sky!", remember?
I was the duty cadet on the very second Morning. The duty Cadet Captain (from Main top) "mumbled" something and went running to eat breakfast. I did not understand what he said. I just got couple of words such as "Day", "jumps up", "cloudy", "breakfast". I was tired and scared of the night three time ragging field experience.  So, I wrote, "The day jumps up breakfast with cloudy sky!" (Just kidding, attempt bring humour). Something like this.  Any way, that evening I was jumping around like a "frog" all around the second floor :(.Then, at sea we had to write weather report every watch and we needed to send it to World Meteorological organization. Now, living ashore, I miss all those.
Anyway, it will be a good idea to have a weather section and it will bring us much closer to Bangladesh. Similarly some other sections such as stories of Academy life, Stories of Sea life etc. where contribution from all Mariners will bring back a lively "Smoke Room" experience!
I'll write you soon.
Thanks,

Dear Shahid vai,
SalamuAlaikum,
Here is my Ten "Gun Salutes" to you and to everyone else. Thank you for posting my last e-mail. I read through all other e-mails from others. Many of them I know, but did not hear from them for a long time. Your posting those e-mails actually brought me closer again. I read the e-mail of CEO's youngest son Anwar. I do not know anything about Mr. Amin since I graduated from Academy.

Life is very hectic over here. I just wrote in a hurry... I'll get back soon.

Sohel Q. Khan
