Capt. Abdullah is a Master Mariner from 14th batch of Marine Academy, Chittagong, Bangladesh.
Recently he joined Shiptrade, Inc.(Global Container Lines Limited), a New York based shipping company, as their IT Manager. He started his IT career with Goldman Sachs & Co., in its Enterprise Technology department as a "New Associate Systems Professional" in February, 1999. Obtained his MBA in Computer Information Systems in December 1998 from Baruch College, City University New York. He did his internship with Global Container Lines Limited, New York., as a Systems Analyst in its head office in Long Island, New York. While he was a MBA student, he joined a charitable organization “Metro International”, as their Global Classroom Speaker. He used to speak to the students, teachers and administrators of New York high schools about the cultural diversity of the societies around the world, often accompanied by his wife. Education Authority of the City Council of New York, honored him with “Partner in Education” award in 1996. Both he and his wife received “Certificate of Appreciation” from the Education Authority of the City Council of New York, for their voluntary works in high schools of New York for a better community, both in 1997 and 1998. He was invited to become member of Alpha Iota Delta and Beta Gamma Sigma for his good academic results in MBA courses.
He started his MBA in Baruch College in December 1995. In May 1996, he had to return to sea to raise fund to continue his study. He commanded "MV. Zara", a general cargo ship owned by Nishan Shipping, Chittagong, from July 1996 to May 1997 and was engaged in transporting sugar mostly from Brazil to Nigeria.
Before starting for MBA, he served Shell Tankers (UK) on its tankers, LPG and LNG carriers as 3rd Officer and 2nd Officer from 1990 to 1995. He served Bengal Shipping Lines, Dhaka as Chief Office during 1988-89. He started his sea carrier with Bangladesh Shipping Corporation as a Deck Cadet in 1979 and resigned in 1988, while he was working as Senior Second Officer. He obtained his Master Mariner certificate in 1990 from School of Maritime Studies-Wales, Cardiff, UK. Obtained his Class 2 Deck Officer certificate in 1986 and Class 3 Deck Officer certificate in 1983, both certificates were jointly done from Marine Academy, Chittagong, and South Tyneside College, South Shields, UK. In 1982, he joined The Royal Institute of Naviagation, London, UK and in 1983 joined The Nautical Institute, London, UK as student member. Eventually he became full member of both the organisation. He became member of The Institute of Navigation, USA in 1984. In 1989, he qualified to join Mensa UK, as a member.
During his sea career, he was actively involved with Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers Association (BMMOA), Chittagong. He was also involved in the publication of two issues of Bangla magazine for Bangladeshi Mariners, “Nabik” in 1983 - 84 .
He joined Marine Academy Chittagong as a Nautical Cadet of the 14th batch in 1977 and graduated in 1979. He completed his higher secondary education from Rajshahi College, Rajshahi. His secondary education from BP High School and primary education from Santahar Mission Primary School were completed in Santahar, Bogra, where his father used work as a Bangladesh Railway employee. Capt. Abdullah resides in a village, where he was born, named Jamalganj in Joypurhat district of the northwestern Bangladesh, when he is on leave.
He married Lailun Nahar of Rajshahi in 1993. Mrs. Lailun Nahar did her Master’s in Applied Chemistry from Rajshahi University. As a student in New York for three years he stayed as a guest in a friend’s house in Staten Island, an island very close to downtown New York. This great friend of him, Mr. Mahmood Hossain Dulu is an architect from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology ( BUET ), an active actor previously associated with Nagorik of Dhaka, and a highly praised singer. Mr. Dulu is presently working as a freelance architect from his home and his wife Mrs. Nilufar Mahmood, a Psychology Master’s from Dhaka University and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, is practicing psychologist in a Developmental Disability Center in New Jersey.

My brother taught me few commands of DOS, but now he is lacking in the knowledge of DOS. Now, computer is my life. I really enjoy computer. It will be real hard to live without it.
